GRANITE FALLS HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION, INC. As volunteers worked to establish the Granite Falls History and Transporation Musuem, they talked about a formal organization that would support the museum and expand opportunities for historical preservation. The Town Attorney provided the group with bylaws and filed Articles of Incorporation with the North Carolina Secretary of State. However, the group remained in active. Members of the History Committee kept the idea alive. In the summer of 2016, they invited museum volunteers to meet with them. The group elected an interim board and a set of officers. The Board updated the bylaws, set dues for individuals, and planned Charter Night. They also determined the number of years they would serve so there would be staggering terms, electing three (3) new Trustees each year. The Board hosted two (2) organizational meetings in 2016. On Monday, October 17th, the group celebrated its formal Charter Night at Philadelphia Lutheran Church on Pinewood Road in Granite Falls. They formally adopted by-laws, elected a Board of Trustees, and brainstormed project ideas. On Thursday, October 27th, the Board of Trustees hosted a meeting at the Granite Falls History and Transportation Museum to accept new charter members and discuss the project ideas in more detail. The Board of Trustees held its first official meeting on Tuesday, November 15th in the museum. They formally elected officers (President Linda Crowder, Vice President Jeanne Whisnant, Secretary Mary Elizabeth Akalski, and Treasurer Adele Mangan). President Crowder appointed Dr. Caryl Burns to serve as the Parliamentarian. The four (4) officers and Dr. Burns will serve as the Executive Committee. Other members of the Board are Eddie Sipes, Barbara Ross, Cary Ross, and Gifford Poe. These Trustees were re-elected for 2017 - 2018 during the First Annual Meeting. At the Second Annual Meeting held on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, members changed the make-up of the Board from nine (9) members who elect officers to five (5) officers elected by the general membership. The officers have been given authority to appoint four (4) additional Board members. After adopting the bylaws changes, members elected the following officers for 2018 - 2019: President Linda Crowder, Vice President Jeanne Whisnant, Treasurer Adele Manga, and Secretary Gifford Poe. Annual dues for the fiscal year November 1 through October 31 are $12.00 for individuals and $25.00 for businesses, prorated during the first year. For example, individual memberhip for March 1 through October 31 is $8.00 ($1.00 per month). Business membership for the same period is $17.00 ($2.00 per month plus $1.00). A family (1 or 2 adults with children under 18 years of age) may join for $18.00 per year (or $1.50 per month). See below for registration forms and a dues chart.
